What makes one school better than the other?

What makes any learning environment better than any other? The teacher! Martial arts styles aside, even “bad” martial arts can be fun and rewarding if taught by a “good” instructor. The main thing to look at is the focus of the instructor.

The focus of the instructor when dealing with the kids should be the kids! Teaching a good kids class is not easy. Every second the instructor must know and see what is going on. He must know when it is time to switch to a new activity. When kids become board or frustrated, the learning curve drops to nothing. This knowledge only comes from experience. Most schools make tournaments or fighting the focus. This is due to not understanding children and taking a responsible approach to the curriculum. We focus on character development. That is the focus of our youth program. I find it ironic that the reason martial arts in china were founded in the first place was to develop the spirit and character of the individual doing it. You see, the martial arts were born in the Shaolin temple. The monks were Buddhist and would not take a life or draw blood. The arts were for personal growth. We are not Buddhist nor do we teach any aspects of this eastern religion, we do teach children the arts for the same reason the monks did them; personal growth. 5000 years of proof can’t be wrong. See what one mother, and Noblesville teacher has to say.
