What is Waga Michi Shorei Kempo?

Waga-Michi Shorei Kempo is the Martial art Sensei Likens teaches. This form of Shorei Kempo has nothing to do with Mitose Sensei’s Kosho Shorei Kempo, and shares only part of a name.

The Shorei part of our art is a Karate style from Okinawa. The Kempo is a Kung-fu art from China. All martial arts sprang from China and  Kempo is a more pure form of this type of fighting art. Our Grandmaster, Grandmaster C.Y. Tsai is actually a Kung-fu Grandmaster and has retired from his Chicago schools. His son now heads the program in the United States.

If you already know about the Martial arts, you may wonder why we wear Karate uniforms if we have such a strong influence in Kung fu. The answer is all Okinawan arts find their roots in Kung fu. In fact, Shorin Ryu, one of the most popular Karate arts in the world, (and the father of Shorin) actually means Shaolin way! Shaolin being the Temple in China where most of the Kung-fu arts originated.
