The adult program at Waga-Michi Karate is unlike most of the rest. First off it is not the same program that the kids learn. It is the same battlefield art it has always been and is not a watered down tournament sport. Our students practice and are proficient in the 5 ranges of “combat”.

Weapons
Kicking
Punching
Trapping
Ground-fighting

With over 16 years as a police officer in Indy working the rough beats, 1 year as a bouncer and, 19 years teaching the Martial Arts. Sensei Likens has the skills and the experience to teach you the truth of self-defense and close quarter combat.

.

In most schools the Sensei says “do this, it works.” How does he know it works? Did his teacher tell him it did? And did his teacher’s teacher tell him? If Sensei Likens says “this works” he knows it does from a real life encounter. Fighting in tournaments, being a champion at a game is not the kind of experience you deserve. Having used skills on the street with real bad guys is the kind of first hand knowledge you want when learning to defend yourself

Anyone can train at our club provided they are of good moral character and are willing to work. Our program is philosophically based in Bushido, the code of conduct followed by the Samurai.

Make no mistake about it, real Martial arts are not for “Fitness”! Most Martial Arts have fitness aspects and we are no different. The real Martial Arts are not a sport. We have some “sporting aspects”, However, if you are chosen to be a student here, your focus will be the “Martial” or combat (what we call self-defense) aspect of the art. "I want every student to be able to protect themselves no matter where or what they are doing. After a short time you will be able to do just that." Sensei Likens.
